Video game and how much they mean

If you are anything like me, then you have played video game since you were young. And one title is held in a special place in my heart, Pokemon. I played the very first games in the franchisee and bonded with the characters in the story. Then everything else stemmed from there. Whenever I got stressed or was in a bad place I would read a book, watch a movie, or play a video game. These special activities take you into a new mindset and reality. These are stress releases that many people crave for and need. Video games have also influence how I think and act today, what I chose for a major and most likely my future as well.

Sometimes pictures just don't do the subject justice

Sometimes pictures just do not do the subject justice. Not enough life or expression to it, I guess that is what video is for, like the live action students. The live action scene gets the entire essence of the subject around to the audience. it feels real because it is real. Unlike the "reality Television" in which is very much acted out and scripted.Live action lifts the veil so the audience gets a full experience. 

Trolls

A battle against the optimism and the pessimism, and  how one  side believes that they can never be happy unless a certain ritual occurs. And the other side believes that everything is fine and nothing is ever wrong. This movie  embodies the theme that everything will go OK through song and dance and everybody working together. The troll were taught an important lesson that,if you just met someone and you kind of like them then you have to sing and dance with them.

The Angry Birds Movie

Unlike the video game, being angry is not something to be praised. The birds live in a Utopian Society where everybody, well almost, gets along with each other in Harmony. Saved in the Beginning by the Mighty Eagle, who founded the society. The select few who are extremely angry, are sent to an anger management class to suppress and deal with their emotions. Which is fine and dandy until the pigs arrive and cunningly steal their eggs.   Then lou and behold the angry birds rally up the birds to take their eggs.The moral of this story is to be angry...... just kidding.

Monster in Paris - Do looks matter?

A monster in Paris, really makes you look at what is actually important. What Society says, That looks are the most important thing. Or is it really your personality and actions that define you? The "Monster" in this movie is actually a misunderstood flea that love music and has an extremely gentle nature. And *Spoiler Alert* and the mayor is the actual "bad guy" who is drunk on power and reminds me of  Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. That friendship can,be in the most unlikely of places. From a cute little flea to the quirky person you might have met the other day. What really matter is your personality and what you do with it.

The dog who was a cat on the inside meets cat who was a dog on the inside- whew long title

When I first watched this film I just took it for face value. It was a cute little cardboard cutout film about a dog and a cat who have to hang out with each other.Then I thought more about it, I think it is talking more about people and what they actually think and  do, like the cat on the inside likes cats and the dog does not. But then this conflicts with the ending of the film. This film seems more like  what is an issue with LGBT people or anyone that does not fit into the not normality of life. They feel that they are something different on the inside and feel left out because nobody else feels the same way. Until they meet someone who feels the exact same way. They finally have some sort of friendship and somewhere to go. 

The untimely demise of the PFFFirate

When you are made of plastic and a metal bird comes up to you, if WILL NOT have a good day. I feel bad for both of those character though, the bird was just trying to.... unwind. And the pirate was probably just minding his own business and sailing off to a little plastic town to pillage. But you can't always get what you want Mr.Pirate and the bird has other plans in store for you. Although is was probably not in your best of interest to invest in an inflatable boat......

But my question is, does the bird also pop the sea or does he drown?

After you I think is a lesson to not be too incredibly nice. If someone is extending their kindness to you, accept it with thanks and get over yourself. Now this could have been both  characters in this film. The yellow character could have went through the door and accepted the "Kindness" of the blue character. But instead the yellow insisted he blue should go first and thus begins the endless cycle of "Kindness". Although I could be missing something this is how I interpreted it. And even after the blue character ripped off the yellow ... turtle's(?) arm he got the door slammed in his face. Which the blue character could have avoided by just going through the door. 

Click clack - Exam #2

Click clack was certainly a roller coaster of emotions, it connected with the audience and made you laugh and even cry.  John Lasseter in one of our weekly readings  The Evolution of  Storytelling said " Your goal as a filmmaker is to entertain. And to entertain people is about story. It’s about characters. It’s about connecting with that audience. It’s making that connection where you really deeply entertain an audience." Click Clack certainly achieved all of this through the little boy the robots found during their antics, and the robots themselves. The film futher develops this connection through a montage of playing around and making click clack noises and makes people tear up when a tragic end meets both of our Robot pals. What is most significant? The connection and friendship you gleam for the robots until their very end.

RWBY

This show is a great re-adaption of old fairy tales. *SPOILER ALERTS*  Which is made by  rooster teeth and is shown on youtube. It is really quirky and is action packed. It also really shows how to work through tough problems and get along with people that you do not get along with. How to solve problems with the help of your team and how a laugh can fix a problem. I appreciate all of the animation work put into this show.  The are also thematic undertones as well, like racism. Dealing with actual different races instead of skin tones. But racism all the same.

The stain - thinking about the meaning

This film kind of tripped me up. The family that was by the sea and the loss of BOTH parental units (I believe) and then the Big sister stepping up to be the mother of the house. How the twins went to work everyday to provide for this family. But one of the last voice overs made me question a lot. Is the lovely child actually a daughter to the "big sister" or is she actually a sister? Or is she both? This means w are dealing with some incest related topics. What also made me think this is the twin brothers fighting over is the child was one of the twins child or the others twin. And possibly that is another factor into the animosity that triggered the shooting to even begin. So many questions.  

Un Jour

I honestly thought that this film was about pregnancies along with other ladies in class. I thought that was a creative film about how much woman love their babies in beginning. I was skeptical to my first thought when we saw the abusive relationship across the hall. I did not think it was about relationships until the credits at the end of the film. I thought the men that where inside of the women where just the woman thinking about what their babies would look like in the future and how they would act. But then the man left the woman and she tried to "fill the hole" but there were several men who could not fulfill this task. This is finally when I caught on when that the main character was talking about relationships and how lucky she was to have hers, until she did not. Many woman try to fill those holes in their lives with the "love" of another human being. But many are unable to recreate the original relationship.   

A feather tale - How I felt after watching

A vulnerable person ( a girl in this case) being picked apart by the partner and worn down until naked and nothing to cover  her body. Everything of worth being taken by the greedy partner until it all is his and nothing is really hers. Now I have never experienced an abusive relationship, at least to this degree, but I can have sympathy for this woman. In the beginning I had just thought that both of them where long distance lovers or something, that they both where sad about the distance between them. I also thought that we was getting into a car to go see her to make the woman feel happy again. But everything changed - when the fir nation attacked- at the dreaded chicken scene. The turn when I started to understand that this was not a favorable relationship was when he started to pluck off the woman's feathers. I think that my emotion of disgust must have been on my face because I got a couple of glances my way. I just felt sick to my stomach at that scene and wanted to go help the poor lady.  I can not stand that people would want to do that to each other.

Onslaught

I agreed whole heartily with this advertisement. We as humans as sociable creatures, who learn though what other people do. Especially at such an early age as the little red headed girl in this Ad. We learn through the Television, what our parents say and do, and what our peers say and do. Dove's Onslaught really affirms what I said in another blog, Media has power to change what people think. All of the commercials that have the woman caked in makeup and scantily clad convey that this is what beauty is. The "perfect" look. I also agree that if we do not tell our sons and daughters what is actually beautiful is their natural beauty, then where do they learn from? I certainly would not want my children to learn from social media first. 

How media can effect us

 Media is a very powerful tool, we all realize this. If we did not then all of us would be most likely in a different major. I know that Professor Leeper has been saying this, but I think that after sitting down and actually processing what he said means, I understand. My sister is a vegetarian because of a video showing the lackluster treatment of animals inside of the slaughter house. The images must have really stuck with her or she would still be enjoying a hamburger today instead of  a seven dollar microwave meal that fits her dietary needs.   Media is so powerful is can alter how we perceive a subject, which is why all of the politicians have all of these ads up on T.V. I mean that makes our job easier, we don't have to convince people to go watch the television. We just have to convince them what we made is worth watching. All of us kind of have this incredible power at our fingertips. To alter a person's opinion, we have to choose what that means to us and how we want to use that power. You know what they say,  "With great power comes Great responsibility."
Now what should we do with it?
 

Spirited Away

 Spirited Away is another one of  Studio Ghibli's  masterpieces.  *Spoiler Alert* The story taking place with a girl named Chihiro (Possibly not correct spelling) who is extremely spoiled and lazy. An over privileged brat who always got what she wanted. Her family is moving to a new neighborhood and she is NOT to thrilled about it. In fact she does complain about it quite often through her body language. Her father becoming a little lost on the way to the little house does not stop to ask for directions and happens across the entrance to a "deserted theme park". Being the tourists that they are they go in and wander around places they should not being wandering around in. Lo and behold the parents eat food that prepared for offering to the spirits that come out during the night. The spirits, not being happy turn the parents into pigs, waiting to be made into the food that they ate in the first place. It all goes onto Chihiro to save them, and along the way she learns responsibility, determination, and also respect for elders. This film does really have a good story to teach, don't eat the spirit's food! Just kidding, it is about respecting your elders and learning how to work through the hard times. That you are not alone, but, somethings  you must do on your own.

The lunch date

I found this film to be quite hilarious. Even though there was a racism during this period of time that the film was supposed to be shot in. How the wealthy middle aged white woman got herself into a pickle by getting things that were dear to her stolen. I loved the scene with the hobo crossing in front of the woman, that we all later found out was not supposed to happen.I absolutely love it when those types of scenes work out in the end. I also absolutely love it when two people (whether it be two of the same race or two of different races) overcome their difference through a little understanding. Just like in the dinner scene where the lady mixed up her salad for another man's salad. And she was he one that ended up stealing food off of the other man ,who possibly could not have afforded much more food and that was one of his meals he just saved up enough money to buy that one meal. There was actually not much drama in that scene because the man of another ethnicity took this all in stride and just accepted the wealthy lady. And in turn the wealthy middle aged woman made a friend (kind of) over her hilarious mishap.

 

The Beastly beauty behind Beauty And The Beast

 Growing up, Beauty And The Beast was one of my favorite movies. The Glitz and the Glamour of living in this castle (with all of those books). The fun of having furniture talk to you , and you legitimately not being crazy. The only down side being that your prince was a jerk in the very beginning and a crazy psycho macho man will NOT stop stalking you. But the prince becomes a nice guy and the stalker falls to his death, everything is fine right? WRONG, the basis behind this love is all wrong. Which hurts me to say because the prince is still my favorite. Why does  Belle even fall for the guy? What was she thinking? Well possibly,  " Oh he let me go to my father, he must be a catch." or " Well this is an advert into the great wide somewhere."  But this type of love seems to be matching up with some domestic abuse thinking. This Stockholm syndrome, this love for the man who put me in shackles. Should this really be something that we allow children to continue to watch? To continue to learn from? Now I say all of this, but my opinion does not change in this being my second favorite Disney princess movie of all time. But hey it is a tale as old as time. And old tales die hard (Pun intended)

When Marnie Was There

When Marnie was an extremely interesting movie. Whilst looking up the images for this blog I also read what automatically loaded up. What interested me was that this movie was an adaption from a British Ghost story! *Spoiler Alert* This means that the ghost of this Grandmother "haunted" her Grandchild.  This could be seen as mutually beneficial because at the end of the movie the ghost Marnie met the requirements to move on to the next life. (Or so it seemed to me) But this also helped her Grandchild to cope with the fact that she did not have a regular family and learn more about her past and understand why her adoptive mother did not tell why she was being compensated for the care being provided. I honestly love pretty much all of Studio Ghibli all of the stories that are reproduced have a wonderful storytelling fashion and animation. I could never be unsatisfied by the quality of the film, just a little sad by the end of the movie though.

The Secret of Kells

This Animation is certainly thought invoking! There is certainly a religious way to this film as well. With the brothers and the books that bring  some color to life under the fear of the Viking attacks. I enjoyed this animation immensely, and most likely will need to watch it again to figure out any themes that I have missed from the first time watching. Just like the film we watched in class the Tale of tales, I will need to re watch to understand the full meaning if I missed anything. I find myself thinking that this book that was so hard fought for in the film relating to the bible, which also promises a better more colorful life to those who read an d follow the word. But that is only my first impression of it. Definitely in need for a re watch!
