The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is an animated science
fiction that focuses on the drama. Like most time travel
films, the main focus is drawn to the fact that either time needs to be fixed,
or that history needs to be changed. After the main character Makoto discovers she is gifted with
the power to travel through time, after almost dying in a train accident, she
decides to have fun with her powers. However, as she travels back in time she realizes
that as she has things her way others get hurt because of it. The entirety of
the movie focuses not on fixing time, but rather the drama of the characters
and the problems they face and how Makoto can fix them, as well as the comedic relief. An
interesting theme in the film is that Makoto is constantly being draw to
certain locations throughout the film. Many of the locations in the film act
like anchor points Makoto eventually is drawn back to, like the railroad crossing and the classroom where on the chalkboard is written "Time waits for no one," by a mysterious stranger. This makes the film a
great watch everyone would enjoy.
Having anchor points was a good choice, as it allowed the film to not being too loose on its rules for time traveling.
