This blog is a response to Jacob's blog
titled "Christians Are(n't) Cheesy", where he spoke about the movie
God's Not Dead. Here's my thing about that movie. I love it. No matter what
anyone says, I enjoyed it, and thought it had a great message. Jacob explained
in his blog that the movie was cheesy and couldn't change the perception of
Christians. Here's the thing, it was supposed to be cheesy! It's a
family film! It seems like mostly everyone I've come across that are movie
critics absolutely despise that film. Sure, the story about an atheist coming
to Christ only because he just got ran over and was dying right then and there
was a little...I don't want to say silly…but silly.
Leeper said the
movie was only for Christians. The thing is, the movie was PROMOTED to
Christians, telling us to bring our friends, because the movie is for everyone!
Are Christian concerts only for Christians? The movie was promoted at
Christian concerts, so we could bring our NON Christian friends to see the
film. This movie is for everyone. It has God in the title oooooo only for
Christians. No, it is directed to a Christian audience yes but to bring
our non-Christian peers to hear the message in a different way. At the end of
the movie, we were to text every single one of our contacts the message
"God's Not Dead". Do you know how many of my friends are non-believers?
I thought it was so cool that we were given the opportunity to send that
simple message to everyone in our contact list, even if they didn't want to
hear it. It puts it in their minds. "God's Not Dead!"
Jacob said in his
article, “Some (like any “brainwashed” Christians) thought it was a great movie
for everyone and wasn’t cheesy at all.”
I thought it was a great movie, am I a
brainwashed Christian??? I hope not!
Hey, maybe you all think I am after reading this article, oh well. My point is, yes, the movie was cheesy, but
that’s because it is a family film. It’s
not cheesy because it is Christian. I
enjoyed the film, I don’t think I’m a brainwashed Christian! For all the movie critics, ok, the film wasn’t
created to be the best motion picture in the history of the whole history of
the history of the universe. It was
created to spread a message and maybe get some eyes on a good Christian film
that, who knows, maybe made someone want to go to Church on Sunday. Then they will get their spirit filled with
the “right” information that critics think the movie omits.
So I agree Jacob, maybe the movie is cheesy. I do however think the movie was way more than
just aesthetically pleasing. *snap*
