Tale of Tales

Leeper hit the nail on the head. Today we watched what Leeper called the “Greatest Animated Film Ever Made”.  Called Tale of Tales by Yuri Norstein, I wasn’t too sure what to make of it.   All I can tell you, and I’m not afraid to admit it, was that I zoned out a couple of times.  The first reason being I didn’t understand it.  Before Leeper played the movie, he told us to open our minds and get out of the critiquing mindset and to just enjoy it.  Well, I tried and, because I didn’t understand it, found myself zoning out.  I’m sure if I understood more of the Russian culture and the lullabies like Leeper said I might have appreciated it a little more.  I’m sure I would have.  Afterwards though Leeper pointed out that some people might have zoned out and when you came back to paying attention, there was something there for you.  I’m not going to deny that.  As much as I’m not interested in animation or old Russian films or anything like that, whenever I zoned out I came back and there was this new thing to pay attention to and try to get invested in.  So while I didn’t necessarily enjoy it (I’m also not afraid to admit that), it was interesting to say the least and I appreciate it.

Don't ask me why I chose this picture.
