I recently watched the comedy movie, Kicking and Screaming. For those that love Will Ferrell this is one that I could definitely recommend watching. Its a comedy about a father, Phil Weston (Will Ferrell), who his entire life has never felt like his father has appreciated him and is always in competition with him. Whatever his dad wants he gets and to him its always about winning. No matter the circumstances he only wants to win. To the point when Phil was a kid growing up on his Dad's soccer team his own dad never played him. He constantly was always having to beg him to play but never got in. Now as a father, Phil deals with the same dilemma where his own son, Sam, is on his Grandpa's team and now he won't play his own grandson. Seeing that Sam isn't playing his Grandpa decides to trade him to the worst team in the league, the Tigers, so he can play more often. Now lets not leave out that this team is absolutely atrocious and in dead last. So Phil decides to take over the team to try and revamp this team to a winning atmosphere and meet his Dad's team in the championship game. He does so and through the process Phil starts to realize that he becomes the same man that his Father was growing up. He benches his own son and only allows the good players to be fed the ball during crunch time of the soccer game. Doing so takes out all the fun in soccer for these kids and they start to maybe realize that they don't want to play anymore. Moral of this movie shows that as kids growing up all we want to do is have fun. Granite the understanding of winning should definitely be pressed upon as coaches in their athletes, but you still want to be able to let the kids have fun while they do so. One thing I often heard growing up was, "Sports are kid's games but it's the parents that screw it up for them." Let the kids play!
