As a film production major it makes sense
that one of my favorite extras of movies to watch is the behind the scenes
footage. You can watch a movie or a show and see a handful of people on screen
and most of the time that´s all the people audience remembers because they saw
the actors. The actors become famous and stars because that´s who we see on the
screen. But we, the audience always seem to forget the hundreds of people that
are behind the camera on blockbuster movie sets.
When I watch the behind the scenes footage,
I not only get to see some of the people behind the camera but also how ridiculously
different everything looks for everyone on set and for us when we watch the
movie. For example, in I, Robot starring Will Smith, we see the finished
project with all the effects, we see the robots on screen and all the buildings
and interiors, but after watching the BTS footage you realize all that the
actors see is mostly just green screen and not much more, most of the robots we
see on screen are nothing behind the scenes. It´s fun to see how movies are
actually filmed, either with mostly green screen or on actual locations using
practical effects. Especially since I hope to be on a set like those one day.
