Sorceror Supreme

I went to see Dr. Strange today, since I'm a big Marvel fan and they consistently put out pretty good movies. It was an interesting premise, and works more off magic than off of the typical superpowers that other members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe possess. Benedict Cumberbatch does a superb job of portraying the main character: Dr. Stephen Strange, a world-class surgeon who got into a car accident and lost precision use of his hands.

On his quest to regain the use of them, he comes across a hidden group of sorcerers. Earth, they say, is only one of many earths, across many dimensions and universes. These sorcerers draw energy from other universes/dimensions to use magic. Strange learns how to do what they do, and his photographic memory and excellent intelligence make him learn quickly. Eventually he confronts the film's main villain. A once member of the group of sorcerers who now seeks to feed Earth to the cosmic being Dormammu, who will consume it into his own collective where everything is one.

Strange defeats Dormammu in the end through clever manipulation of a time affecting device. Dormammu's realm is timeless, so he creates a time loop that Dormammu cannot escape from, and eventually wears him down enough to make a bargain, saving Earth. Overall, a very good movie, interesting concepts, and superb actors.
