Audrie and Daisy is an incredible Netflix Documentary. Not only
was the content of what the Documentary was about but the way they presented the
story was unique and amazing. Audrie and Daisy is about two girls who were
raped. Audrie committed suicide just days after her assault and Daisy was close
to. This Documentary dove into their stories and tells what they had to go
through. The interviews with the parents, the boys who assaulted them, the
officers, the people of the town etc.
were incredible and raw.
In Audrie’s case they wanted to protect the identity of the boys
who assaulted her because they are minors. Typically, when you see this the
producer will just have the person be lit so
the viewer can’t tell who it is. In this case they brought animation in
and animated the boys so you could still see their posture, fidgeting with
their clothes, moving around uneasy etc. it added to the documentary in a
unique way. In Audries case the boys drew all over her body and when they were
at that point in the film as the one boy was talking about it they animation as
if someone was drawing on the screen. When they talked with Daisy and were telling
her story they brought her drawing to life with animation. Say she was trying
trees, they would take that make in animated and then flow it into real life
and the road that the boys who assaulted her drove on to take her back home.
