After binge watching four seasons of The Office, I am more and more intrigued by the writing of the character Michael Scott and the performance from Steve Carrell. The character of Michael Scott is written so well that I am drawn in by everything he does, because sometimes it leans towards absolute insanity. There is such a palpable sense of awkwardness because of Steve Carrell's portrayal which really highlights the hurt that Michael Scott actually feels. Most of the time during his work, all he wishes to do is impress his coworkers and make people happy. In his endeavor to do so, he really only shows the vulnerability of himself and his lack of real investment in himself. I feel as though many of Michael Scott's mannerisms really come from Steve Carrell on a personal level and he really connects this through his character. There are a lot of similarities between the two in the way that Michael Scott aspires to be a comedian and really identifies with comedians that I would assume Steve Carrell looks up to, or in some ways look down to. I think that Steve Carrell plays Michael Scott in such a smart way, and every episode really highlights that character and how much investment Steve Carrell brings to the table. I know I am only half way through, but I feel as though by the time I finish The Office I will be rewatching with the same feeling as I have now.
