Foreigner - "The Flame Still Burns" Part 1: The First Verse

“The Flame Still Burns” by Foreigner (Originally released in 2011), was just given new life earlier this week with the release of their music video. Beginning with Mick Jones, the lead guitarist reminiscing on the past years, or the golden age when Foreigner was in their prime. He throws on a record and from there the song begins. He then opens a photo album filled with past loved ones who have past. Footage cutting in and out between the images, and the members current band preforming the song in what may be the studio. Kelly Hansen sings slow and soothingly, contrary to other hits of their past, showing their age and almost to give a sense of loss and maturity. With the lyrics…

“I live a life that's surreal
Where all that I feel I am learning Oh life
has been turned on the lathe
Reshaped with a flame that's still burning
And in time, it's all a sweet mystery
When you shake the trees of temptation
Yeah and I, I know the fear and the cost
Of a paradise lost in frustration”

The lyrics fit the emotion shown in the band members perfectly and I feel as if they even ring more true now than in 2011. With the return of Vinyl Records, and some of the most influential bands of a life time returning to the studio and the stage I feel as if I would just itch to create again. Not only live in the past, but bring the past back to the future. This is only the beginning as verse two strikes a new type of note, in part 2 of this post…
