I’ve been filming weddings since 2012 and something I’ve noticed
recently is that the majority of my favorite videos can be found earlier on in
my career as a filmmaker. I asked myself why that is and I realized it is
probably due to the drive I had in the beginning. I wasn’t driven by my desire
to use glamorous equipment; I was driven by the story each of my clients wanted
to tell.
The wedding highlight video I treasure the most in my
collection is that of Shari & Jonathan. Their magical day included a
beautiful first look in the modest sanctuary their 45-minute ceremony also took
place in. After the ceremony, Shari’s disabled
older brother, Chad spoke of the police car he’d drive the couple to the
reception in. The reception was held in a decked-out county fair building. The night
came to an end as friends of Shari and Jonathon surprised the couple with the
Ruby Tuesday lamp they sat under on their first date. It was the most God-centered
wedding I’ve ever filmed and I’ll never forget the love that could be found
between Shari and Jonathan’s family all day.
Their story didn’t need a million detail shots with gorgeous
bokeh in the background and spectacular dolly movements. It just needed to be
told in a way that allowed it to be beautiful all by itself. I’d like to think
I somehow managed to achieve that, but I’ll let you decide. :)
This is so beautiful! You do such a beautiful job!
