When I was
trying to find other films that we watched in class, I found this one, called The Present. It is about a boy who gets a dog that is
missing a leg, but we don’t find out until a little while into the film. When the mom comes, and gives the boy the dog
in a box, the boy is so involved in his video game that he barely notices that
she got something for him. At first I
thought that this was going to be about people that are too into their games
and the internet. As I thought about
this idea, the film showed the dog with only three legs and this is when I
became clueless.
When the
boy realizes that the dog only has one leg, he throws it on the ground and I
was very confused. Why is this boy
throwing a dog around, even if it different?
Then the boy starts to smile a little bit and he eventually gets up and
the viewer can now see that the boy only has one leg also. This definitely made my heart warm and it
made me realize what the theme was, and I think that there can be many
different ones. First, the obvious is
that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.
Second, we shouldn’t judge people because of how they look. Third, I think that a big part of the story
was the fact that the boy and the dog both had a leg missing, which led the boy
to think that he was treated different when he got a dog with one leg. I’ve never been in that situation, so I can’t
tell you how I would feel about it, but I think that the boy might have felt
bad about himself. The fact that the dog
kept trying to run and would fall, then would get up and keep running provoked
another thought. I think this gave
inspiration to the boy to try his best in everything he does and really try to
focus on not getting down on himself because of his missing leg.
I think
this is true for normal people today because there are a lot of us that just
give up or don’t give it our all when we have the ability to do it. For others, with different issues, it can be
hard to write or do everyday activities.
We need to do our best to give our all no matter the circumstance.
