Kubo and The Two Strings was a movie that I had no opinion on. Going into this film, I felt at this point I had seen enough of the normal kids flicks to be able to piece together what this film would be, but I was happily surprised. What may have been shown at face level was soon tossed aside by the eloquent and heartwarming story of Kubo, The performances of Matthew McConaughey and Charlize Theron paired with the nuanced performance of Art Parkinson set up the story of Kubo on a pedestal. Each of the main actor's performances made a seeming simple story into something that anyone could love. A story of survival, redemption, and love was so well portrayed by the animation and played to a full soundtrack that paints a wonderful picture for the audience to hear. I'm not overpraising this movie, though it may seem I am, but it was honestly one of the best animated features I have ever seen. Yes the movie's plot was predictable, but I don't believe that should stand in the way of what this movie is. It's a simple story that pulls all the stops for a fully enjoyable experience.
Go and see this movie if you have not, it should not have to be scraping to get a solid box office.
