Cats Don't Dance - Follow Your Dreams

As most people grow up, we are told to follow our dreams. We're told that we can always achieve our dreams, if we just try hard enough. In Cats Don't Dance, an aspiring movie star named Danny leaves his home of Kokomo Indiana to pursue Hollywood. But what he doesn't understand at first is that not everyone can make it to their dreams. Upon receiving a role in Darla Dimple's "Ark Angel", he finds that being himself doesn't cut it in the movie industry, or any industry for that matter. After screwing up the first cut of the film, Danny's understanding of the real world is shattered. In the deepest scene in the movie (in my opinion, at least), Danny says one very special line. "I just want to do the thing I love, doesn't everyone?" After saying that, he realizes that the rest of the animals cast in Darla's movie all gave up on their dreams. This scene and the remainder of the film clearly represent the childhood dreams we have. We work toward our dreams until we reach the real world, where we realize it is not that easy.
Most of us come to terms with the fact that we will not make it to our biggest dreams and we tend to settle with something less than our dreams. At this point, some of us may wonder "what was the point of even having a dream, if we can't even achieve it?" and even ponder their life's purpose. After reaching rock bottom and giving up, Danny realizes that he can not just become like everyone else, destroying a wonderful dream, a whole world within him, and decides against giving up. Cats Don't Dance has an amazing message that I think anyone with a big dream, or anyone with a dream for that matter, would appreciate greatly. It certainly reminded me that my own dream will be hard to achieve, but it is not impossible.
