In class on Thursday we talked
about the difference between bad readers and good readers. We discussed how
good readers will read things multiple times, hunger after it, and allow the
author to change their imagination and the way they think about things. Bad
readers are basically the opposite of this. Through this class discussion, I
was thinking, “Oh I am a good reader and I am open to new ideas”. Then I really
started thinking and realized maybe I am not that good of a reader. I normally
do not read things over and over unless it is about a particular topic that I
already know I like. A characteristic of a bad reader is that they only read
things with a plot, which describes me pretty well. I typically do
not watch black and white movies because I think they will be boring and not
keep my attention. I have seen parts of “It’s a Wonderful Life” on TV but I have
never watched the whole thing because I thought it would be boring. However, in
class we watched a clip from the movie and it turns out I really liked it. This
class discussion allowed me to open up my mind to new things, like watching
movies in black and white and reading things that don’t always have a plot.
