"Good and evil meet and do battle in the fairy-tale world much as they meet and do battle in our world, but in fairy tales the good live happily ever after. That is the major difference" (Beuchner, 82). Fairy tales are an important part of culture because it seems that so few stories in the real world end happily, and fairy tales give us a sense of hope that they could. In movies, there's always someone telling the hopeful young protagonist that they're living a fairy tale, there's no way that their dreams can come true. The Gospel is a true fairy tale because it is the same battle between good and evil, and there's a happy ending! But we're not kids anymore; we don't believe in fairy tales. I remember years ago we went to Norfolk Virginia and I saw a battleship up close, and went inside. It was just so big, I couldn't believe that it was a real boat, let alone that it could float. I was convinced that it was some kind of building made to looked like a boat, and eventually I would turn a corner and find the door to the basement, proof that it was all fake. The truth of the Gospel is so "big" that it's hard to believe, but when we become like children we have the faith to believe without doubt.
