The Geri Game
It starts out with this old man playing chess and you see
that it is against himself. You can tell right off the bat that one is “the
evil one” and the other is “the good one”. This shows tension between the two
characters. They also portray this with the colors behind them on the trees,
red for evil and yellow for good. It shows how he is struggling against himself
in this harsh battle. It’s a back and forth game where red is dominating yellow
for most of the game. It comes down to the last point and yellow doesn’t know
what to do. Red has pretty much cheated and played his way to the top so that
yellow had no chance at all to overcome him. You see that yellow then starts a
tactic where he distracts his opponent. His opponent becomes baffled and
confused and doesn’t know what to do. As this is going on yellow turns the
table before red can see. Red doesn’t realize it and it shows how yellow wins
the game. The meaning behind this is that yellow had more determination than
red, it just seems as though red is more competitive. It shows that yellow was
throwing hint about wanting the teeth, chewing gum and missing his dentures. That
motivation is the key to receiving what is rightfully yours.
