The first part of class today we
discussed the short films that we watched during Tuesday's class session. I did not post after Tuesday's class because
I still had some unanswered questions about the films. After today's in class discussion, I feel as
if I have a much better understanding of what the producer of the films are
trying to say to us. For example, in the
film with the women being loaded into the truck, we discussed how the camera
angle did not move at all. All the men
standing there dressed in suites and business clothes did not move either
except for one man how looks back. The
first time I saw this, I did not think anything of it. Now I realize that he is inviting the audience
to take place in this horrible crime alongside him.
During the second part of class
today, we watched a film called Pleasantville. At first I was not really sure why
everything was in black and white and then things started to turn to
color. The part of the film that the
light went off for me however was when the woman walks into the diner to look
at the man’s paintings. She begins to
cry and the man wipes her face and begins to see color. The way I perceived it was she was covering
herself to avoid judgement from others in the predominately black and white town. The people in color were independent and not
afraid to express themselves.
