The discussion of tragedy in class
definitely hit home with me. I lost my older sister in a car accident when I
was in fifth grade, so anytime the loss of a loved one is mentioned, it is hard
to not be affected by it. In class we discussed how it is ok to be human and to
weep, cry, surrender, and purely show emotion. As Christians, it is so
important that we do not cover up our feelings or try to hide from our grief.
Yes, everyone handles grief in a different way, but I think it is important
that grieving takes place after something tragic has happened in your life.
Jesus says in Matthew 5:4, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be
comforted”. The bible also tells us that
we will face trials and difficult times in this life. Life will not be easy. Another
favorite verse of mine when I am going through difficult times is James 1:2-3,
“Consider it pure joy my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many
kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance”.
This does not mean that every terrible thing that we are dealt in life we
should be happy about or content with. It is ok to be upset and grieve, but God
wants us to find our comfort and peace in Him because He loves us so much. The
difficult things we experience in life will only make us stronger in our faith.
Sharing my story with others and relating to them has helped me deal with my
grief and has brought me a sense of joy and peace. It has also allowed me to
grow closer to the Lord and deepen my faith. We will all face difficult times
in our lives, but God will never leave us or forsake us.
