I was very surprised to find out that C.S. Lewis never
actually had a plan for the Narnia Chronicles. I thought that it was very
interesting that he kept a picture in his head for 24 years before he decided
to do anything with it. He also made a very good point about asking authors
where their idea from a book came from. Sometimes you just really don’t know.
Things pop in your head and seem to stick around. Sometimes it’s just meant to
be. Narnia is an amazing story, all seven of them, it’s amazing to think that
it all started with a picture and some dreams.
In “A Garden in the Wilderness,” I like how it started out
with “The Bible is a book that tells a story.” In quite a few of my classes, we
have been talking about just that. The Bible is another version of the creation
story. There are many of them, including the “Enuma Elish” which is the
Babylonian creation story and the Egyptian creation story. They all vary. The
Babylonian story seems to be more violent than the other two. The Bible is what
Christians view as the true creation story. At the end of the day it’s up to
you in what you believe.
Mythic Cycles was interesting and strange at the same time.
I like how it referred to the seasons as a clock. I also like how each season
had a specific genre to go along with it. Time is essential.
