Overall there was a lot to take away from the reading of
Gospel as Tragedy but there was one thing that I particularly like about that reading. Buechner writes "Astonishment and joy are what our faith finally point to." This really stuck out to me and I think there is a lot to be said about this quote. At the end of the day, end of the year, end of someones life I think joy plays a big part in every humans life. I don't know too many people that don't want to be joyful, astonished, or happy at the end of the day, it is just a feeling that is hard to beat. I personally try to live my life to the fullest everyday but at the same time be as happy and joyfully as possible while trying to make the most of every moment. Astonishment and joy tie together very well from a Christianity prospective as well. When I think of astonishment and joy I think of prayer and God answering our prayers. When life is hard and we are going through rough times as Christians we use prayer. There isn't a more joyful feeling than when someone is there to pray for you, furthermore that feeling of astonishment comes when you have been praying for something you are really anxious for and God answers your prayer. Lets just say you have a big test coming up and you have prayed and prayed that God just blesses you to take that test to the best of your ability, you take the test and a couple days go by. Next thing you know you get the test back from the professor a few days later and you got an A on it and you are just overcome with joy and astonished that God's presence was there for you as you took the test and ultimately he answered your prayer.
God is good all the time!!!
