Personally, one of my favorite,
if not my favorite game ever, Journey is the ideal as far as true video gaming
goes. It has everything incredible visuals, a beautiful soundtrack, and a story
hidden away in the stunning environment just waiting to be discovered. But my
favorite thing about Journey is there is many types of journey’s that this game
takes you on all at once. You have the physical journey, guiding your cloth covered
character from here to there, there being a mountain hanging off in the far
distance. Then there is the visual journey, from sun-kissed desert to icy mountain
top. From gloomy hopeless depths, to vivid sky paradise. Then there is the
musical journey, from melancholy strings to euphoric strings. Finally, and most
importantly the emotional journey, taking you from wonder to joy then to despair
to relation. It takes these journey’s and wraps them all into one big Journey.
The craziest thing is there is only one cut scene at the end, the rest is fully
gameplay. There is no dialogue, aside from one noise you can utter to call over
pieces of cloth. The controls are only walk, jump, and speak, so it is accessible,
literally anyone can pick it up and play. The story is a loop encouraging you
to play it multiple times, and every time you return you still feel the full effect
of the game. It is a master piece, and it is the first game that emphasizes the
best parts of the medium as an art to win game of the year. Showing progression
as gamers to a deeper understanding of the art of gaming, rather than flashy
high production multiplayer focused shooters, complete shit-shows, which have overwhelmed
the mainstream for to long. But nothing I can write can bring true justice to the experience provided by this game.
I would more than suggest you to play this game. It is suggested you play in one sit in because it takes about three hours and to capture the full emotional spectrum one must experience it as a whole. t is by far one of the most complete three hours you can have in your life, at least in gaming. The trailer surprisingly does some justice on giving off the general vibe of the game…
