Why Connor Oberst is the modern Bob Dylan

Conor Oberst is part of a band called Bright Eyes and they are a indie band and he is part of many different groups from a rock band to a folk band. He sings about the troubles he has the problem in the country. He is a song writer and storyteller and talks about his insecurities and we get a glimpse into his personal life through his story's of love lost and wanting to be somewhere else that he isn't. I feel Bob Dylan had the same attitude is he was looking for a void to feel and he couldn't find that perfect woman. He hasn't been as popular as Bob Dylan was he is still an Indie artist he is in my option on of the last genuine artists because they just aren't as predominate anymore. I feel Conor doesn't want to be in the spotlight either because he seems very shy and stand offish. Also he lived in Nebraska so he understands the pain of living in the middle of nowhere and dealing with a bunch of cold weather and no culture. Also in my opinion Nebraska is worse than Indiana because there is just nothing there.

Death Cab for Cutie music videos

I feel that this band's music videos are videos are unique and have special quality to them. They are an indie band so they are going to be unique but each video is different from the other ones. These video are cared for and taken time on and just slopped together and they think outside the box. One of there videos titled "Title and Registration" in which they were giving a guy a heart transplant but his whole body was made of paper and there was another one that was only photographs but they told a story, it was like stop motion. I feel that they keep music videos a art form instead of a promotion and to me that why music videos aren't as popular is because people just stoped trying and just took shot of a club and called a music video. You know people make lyric videos well death cab did that and it was absolutely stunning and must have taken forever to do I can't explain it. Gender Roles

I personally don't believe in gender rolls but to me these things are dependent on the individual. It doesn't matter if your strengths are being a stay a home dad or a woman who gets a high business position. If they are qualified for the job they need to get it and I think there needs to be rules set in place so that it makes business's hire women and hold the business accountable. Then with stay home dads we need to make it a cultural change instead of having stay home moms we need to have stay at home dads to encourage this needed change. That's why Feminine and Masculine don't mean male and female they stand for traits not genders, that's why there some girls who are tomboys and boys who are more feminine. I think that kids should play with what ever they want, wile boys are looked at this more critically it goes for girls just as much, the only reason toys have genders is because of the way they were marketed. This also doesn't mean your kid will turn out gay or if you are a feminine guy you are gay. That is a different discussion all together so don't try and lump those subjects into one category. We just have to find out our strengths and weaknesses and go with it.

Seinfeld

Seinfeld is the funniest tv show in the history of tv it is beautifully written with funny jokes and just everyday situations it is the most genuine sitcom ever written. It it the show about nothing which makes it so genuine is thats what everyday life is your friend asked you what did you do today you say nothing. That nothing is essentially what this show is based off of random everyday life occurrences. There is actually a part of the show where they are pitching a sitcom exactly like the show to NBC which is the network this show originally aired on. It takes place in New York and the character are a comedian, a publicist, a guy who worked many different places like the yankees, and guy who lives in an apartment doesn't work but seems to have money. Jerry is the slow reasonable one, George is the dorky acquired one, Kramer is the sporadic one and Elaine is the woman who hangs out with guys cause she hates woman.

Friends

I feel that this show is head up on a pedestal for my generation because it had been out for a good part of our early childhood. I feel this show is the perfect 90s and early 00s show it had characters everyone could relate to in one form or another. You have a awkward and nerdy professor, a OCD woman who is a chief, a deep new age thinker, a funny guy who has a boring job, a guy who is a actor whose on the slow side. The show has many elements, also there is small shout out to the gay community by making Rosses wife a lesbian. Even though there some jokes about her coming out it still brought light to it. I also feel the show gives a sense of reliability  and wanting to have that kind of friendship in my post college young adult years. I also feel that it gave Jennifer Aniston and Matthew Perry a huge launch in their acting careers. It is also a show that is rerun on cable all the time with shows like Seinfeld which was another amazing 90s show and has been called the best written sitcom ever.

Why Micheal Cera is the most relatable actor (in my opinion)

I feel Micheal Cera has there rolls of this guy who is just really shy and awkward, which may seem weird for me to relate to for some people. I say to those people just see me at a party with a crap ton of people I don't know. I am the most shy person in most situations but the most open person with people I am friends with. Micheal Cera also plays this role of a guy who is so shy and awkward which I can relate to because I am shy and awkward. Youth in Revolt is the most relatable of his movies, he is a guy who lives with his mom and her latest boyfriend and just doesn't feel like he will ever be in a relationship. Then his family goes on a trip go on a trip and he meets this girl who is just right for him and he doesn't feel bad enough so he creates an bad persona to impress her. I think everyone who's like Micheal Cera's character experiences this feeling of shyness and awkwardness and want to be bad to impress girls. There are so many other movies but his characters personality is pretty consistent from movie to movie.

What's next for Liberals

The question on every liberals mind for the past month, is what is the next step, separate from the union, fight this agenda of hate and separation with protests. The answer to me is band together, love each, and fight this peacefully, the problem is a bunch of old white straight dudes aren't going to listen to the minorities that are being discriminated against. The liberals have to band together and fight this or all move to the coast the problem is not all minorities can move to the coast, Latino/Hispanic, and mid-eastern people can't just stay in California or New York because they can't afford it. Especially a president who is who embraces his ingrained stereotypes and takes those stereotypes further and oppresses against minorities. The first step to me is to clean out the corruption in the Democratic party while the parties are all flawed, they're the only ones that are going to help these oppressed people
against discrimination. I feel that we need to help each other and do what ever it takes to protect these people, what even scarier our government is run by mostly Republicans. I am not saying the Democrats are squeaky clean, I am just saying they won't be as prone to discriminate against a person, they do need to get out of corruption and deceptiveness.

My Favorite Movie of all time, Boyhood!

This movie is about a Boys life from the time he was six until he was eighteen and headed off to college, it also highlights life changes in his mom, dad, and sisters life as they grow up. This movie is   cinematic gold in my mind, they filmed this movie over 12 years and kept the same cast: Ellar Coltrane, Lorelei Linklater, Patrica Arquette, Ethan Hawke and many more. Richard Linklater is also know for his 70s spin off movie Dazed and Confused which is an instant teen classic. This movie is the reason I got into film to tell story that can't be told by me, it goes back to the saying, I can't tell you but I can show you. I think that this movie was a progressive and culturally relevant movie they had culturally relevant things, small things like playing a gameboy, watching Dragon Ball Z, or the talk of how Bush was screwing our country over hardcore with the war, to the election of President Obama. I know I said this with The Perks of Being a Wallflower but with this I truly mean that this is the defining movie of our generation or any generation, this movie made cinematic history!

The Perks of being a Wallflower

I feel this movie is a movie that breaks the ice and shows you stories of multiple types of outcasts. On the one hand you have a guy who was bully and outcasted and shy, then a guy who was gay but no one wanted to accept him and his lifestyle, a girl who was popular but got a reputation for being "easy" so she coward away, then you have the people who are hurt and are very dark. I feel that every character was represented well because all my friends and myself where like at least one of these people. It was great because this came out my Freshman year and I loved it and read the book right after I saw the trailer and it was amazing. I saw the movie and I just loved it because it was a personal relatable thing for me, it was real character with real problems and it was blunt. Thats why I don't like when people use metaphors or beat around the bush with real problems in film, just give a readable story thats tackles the issue at hand instead of forcing it with metaphors/smilies. Thats why I loved this movie it wasn't afraid to be bold. If you haven't seen it watch it, it is the defining movie for
our generation.

Bernie Sanders vs. The Democratic party

There has been a lot of blow up in the Democratic party since Trump has been elected and a lot of that is being shown by Bernie Sanders. He has shown the thing that I have heard about from my dad for a few years now from him having been in the Union and the Democratic party for 13 years. There has been some major smoke and change in this party because they chose personal financial gain instead of giving money to organizations and power to the people. They have been taking the money and forcing an agenda by financial gain, the party of the people has become the party of the few elite. Which is exactly what Bernie Sanders has been saying everyday since the election ended, he said that the democratic party need to get back to a grassroots movement and fight for the people and exactly what I said above. You maybe asking okay so why did he back Hillary Clinton which was one of the sources of this corruption, well it was all for show, he did want Hillary to win but he didn't really back her he did it so the party wouldn't edge him out. I mean even when Bernie was campaigning he brought up these issues of how people are getting screwed and how he was an outsider trying to change the inside. As for me I agree with most the stuff they say, there are just some roads this party goes down that I just cannot follow.

The Simpsons in Culture

I feel The Simpsons is the best cultural show, The Simpsons to me is what most film makers try and achieve. The Simpsons speaks to you on a personal level that everyone can relate to and inttagrates character smoothly as the culture changes therefore people will want to be more open to concepts. The Simpsons makes the changes at the exact moment when culture is ready for it. Film makers try many different strategies like in show like South Park that just make a joke out of it all and take it to the extreme. Then Family Guy whose show just throws it in at the most random and awkward times and tries to make a joke of it. The Simpsons does make joke on these topics but there not extreme and random they serve a purpose. Yes I have a bias toward The Simpsons because I have seen the other shows and they just aren't as relatable wile South Park is down right awkward and funny which I can appreciate, Family Guy serves absolutely no purpose, its random stupid, and pointless. I feel that The Simpsons have discussed many topics over its many years that we still face to day but they don't harp on it they say what they need to say and back off.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

This show tackles so many issues it’s crazy the show is just down right hilarious and it doesn’t hold back. It’s like How I met your mother on crack, the show is about three guys who own a bar and a Bartender and one of owner and bartender’s dad who owns part of the bar. The show starts off with a guy how is dating the Bartender and he feels like he could help their business by bringing in more people but things go wrong, and one of the guys named Charlie makes a comment in front of the girl he likes that could be taken as racist, so he goes out on a date with a black girl to prove he’s not racist. There is so much drama that goes down but I just don’t want to spoil it you will have to go out and watch it yourself, it’s on FX. There are so many social barriers that get broken down in this show it’s crazy. I feel that this show is one the funniest sitcoms I have seen in a long time because it’s so awkward and outrageous.

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee

After The Colbert Report left I was desperately searching for a new political satire show, the daily show was okay but it wasn’t like Steven Colbert. Then after a few years of searching I came across a show called Full Frontal with Samantha Bee on TBS, this is my absolute favorite Political show even more than the Colbert Report because it is non-stop the whole show is just one big monologue, no interviews just straight up satire. She exposes everything that is wrong with the system even though she is bias for the left, she does question the left quite bit. What I love about her the most is she is sassy and not afraid to expose the crazy ideology’s. I feel that she says all the things I am thinking and she is a strong independent woman. When I watch her it’s like I just can’t stop laughing, but conservative people would hate it because she calls you out hardcore and doesn’t hold anything back.  I feel her show just gives me a good laugh instead of crying about the state of this country.

The Election

I watched the news until about two last night and went to bed knowing Donald Trump would take it but was still holding on to hope. Then this morning I woke up found out that he won and it hit me like a ton of bricks and I just started crying. Even though I hated Hillary I still think she would have done more to help those in need and gave them a helping hand. I cried because I thought of every girl in this country, every Immigrant, every Black person, every Muslim, every disabled person and all minorities. I just love people and I can't have a Bully as president I did my time in Middle School and I will fight with all my might against this campaign of hatred with love and respect to all my minority friends. I am still in awe of this it makes me sick, depressed, and angry, shoot even back in 2012 Mitt Romany just said "Make me a sandwich" he didn't say "Let me grab your pussy". I feel dirty just quoting him he is so unjust and unfit, I am just scared for the future of the minorities in this country. The only thing this gives Democrats is more time to pick a better candidate and to fix some of the corruption in their party that has come about as of late. There is still hope as long as we love each other the way Christ calls us to, we are doing more than any dumb president can do.

Brent Hardy-Quiz 2

The movie I am doing is Feather Tale by Michele Corneye. This film showed a woman being used and manipulated by a man he touched her like she was just an object. He also took advantage of her humble insecure nature. This was a great depiction because the man in the film plucked her feathers which is an amazing metaphor for peeling off the layers of a woman's soul and body by objectifying her and using her. Which ties in perfect with the reading that takes about a time when feminism and woman started to get a place in normal society or in other words a mans world. That time was the seventies and eighties where a woman would give you something and it would just get laughed away. So you know they were fighting an up hill and still are today because of our ingrained stereotypes. The reading talked about woman in the animation industry and how they were never ready to take on the tasks that men had been doing for years. There was a consent that this was a problem and that the patriarchal and misogynistic attitude has went on way too long. In response most woman only really got "curtesy" not necessarily a serious position. So while we still have come a ways woman have a long way to go, we do have still have woman like Carole Holliday. She is not only a woman but she is a black woman who has work on anything from The Little Mermaid to the Prince of Egypt. Woman have come quite a ways but they still have a long way to go.

Before the Flood

      This was a documentary special on National Geographic on Sunday night, it tackled one of the most serious and must underrated issues of them all, climate change and how fossil fuels effect the environment.  This documentary was narrated by and stared Leonardo DiCaprio, who has talked about this issue for many years, as the documentary shows.  He interviewed many US and world leaders and took us around the world and showed us the most polluted nations in the world and how even in the most polluted nations they’re still doing a better job to enforce renewable energy, than the US.  That’s the best way that we can fix this problem is by renewable energy like solar panels or Wind mills and getting rid of fossil fuels.  I remember for me personally when we were driving to California I saw more oil mills then I did Wind mills and we drove cross country so I saw many states. California didn’t have as many because they are environmentally strict but they did have many wind mills. In the movie Leonardo made a great comparison by using the painting the Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch, Leonardo said “We are no longer living in that spoiled depiction of Eden(left), we are living in that second panel human kind before the flood(middle). What haunts me the most is that last panel(right) with the charred blackened skies, the plant we have collectively left to ruin, the question is can we change are coarse in time.”
