Tormenting Your Characters For Fun

If your familiar with anime, you may find that a lot of the stories associated with it can get kind of specific. There's probably an anime about any sort of microculture you can think of. Do you like making anime? There's literally an anime about making anime. With every genre there's the good the bad and the ugly. I'm unsure which category this show falls into. I enjoyed the idea of the show, but wether it was executed very well or not, I'm still doubtful.
"Kokoro Connect" is about a group of friends in a club at their school. They have trouble getting along, seemingly because of their clashing personalities. Then an unknown, seemingly omnipresent being, begins messing around with their lives simply for the sake of entertainment. That's it, no complicated reasons, just so they can see if "something interesting will happen." This character is never really explained or touched on and their identity is unknown. I have reason to think it's probably a self-insert of the writer themselves. It's never really said, but it's pretty obvious that's what it is. Taking the deepest fears and desires of a group of characters and testing them in scenarios for the sake of curiosity, that sounds like a writer to me.
