The
Paralympics have some of the greatest athletes (able-bodied or otherwise) that
have ever hit a court, track, floor, etc. This is evident when you look at
Steve Serio. Mr. Serio is 29 years old and plays for Team USA on the wheelchair
basketball team, and because of his and the teams efforts went undefeated in
the 2016 Paralympics in Rio this past summer. They won their first gold medal
in 28 years. “To think about what we accomplished and to accomplish it together
with this group of guys, it is special. From my personal experience, getting
fourth at Beijing [2008] was really hard. Getting bronze at London [2012] was
an important stepping stone for the programme, just to know that we belong on
the podium. Four years later to win the gold it has been an amazing journey. I
would not change it for anything.” (Paralympic) says Mr. Serio after the gold
medal win, beating Team Spain 68 to 52.
