"If ____ wins the Presidency i'll move to Canada"
A saying that is said quite frequently that annoys the hell out of me is "If (insert name here) wins the Presidency I'll move to Canada or some other foreign country." That strategy is literally counter productive. If someone who you disagree with on every single issue wins, wouldn't that make you want to stay and fight for the values you believe in and want to be displayed in our country? Giving up on your country based on an elected official is incredibly unpatriotic. Stay and fight for what you believe in! Frankly it doesn't matter which side you're on. If you're a Republican and a Democrat who supports abortion is put into office, stay and keep fighting for what you believe in. Same goes for Democrats. If a Republican is put into office who wants to sign anti LGBT legislation, leaving the would be a sign that you really couldn't care less about what goes on in this country. It doesn't make sense for a person who believes that a country is at their worst to leave then. That is exactly when you should be pushing back the hardest to get the country back to the way it used to be. Much of the arguments are hyperbole, given that the president doesn't make laws, congress does. The supreme court doesn't make laws either, they interpret the constitution. We have checks and balances for a reason guys. But, regardless even if the president somehow takes over and becomes a ruthless dictator hell bent on destroying the world, fight for what you believe in. No matter the result tomorrow, no matter who wins the presidency, no matter who wins the senate, I will still be here, fighting for what I believe in. I would hope you would do the same.
